Abstract
A system for thermal protection in a power distribution apparatus is disclosed. A power distribution system includes first and second silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs) coupled to a heat sink. A first temperature sensor configured to sense a temperature of the first SCR while a second temperature sensor configured to sense a temperature of the second SCR. A control unit is configured to compare a temperature from the first temperature sensor to a plurality of temperature thresholds while the second SCR is disconnected from a load. The control unit generates a warning in response to the temperature reading from the first temperature sensor exceeding a first threshold but not a second threshold. The control unit may further cause disconnection of the first SCR from the load and connection of the second SCR to the load in response to the temperature reading from the first temperature sensor exceeding the second threshold.
