A system and method for continuous real-time monitoring of a primary chiller device of a pumped two-phase chiller system includes flow rate and outlet temperature sensors within the primary chiller device, continually sensing a flow rate and outlet temperature of a primary fluid refrigerant leaving the primary chiller device to circulate through a pumping unit and transfer heat absorbed from downstream IT devices (and, with respect to direct-to-chip (D2C) systems, downstream chip assemblies). The pumping unit controller receives the collected flow rate and outlet temperature data and, when the flow rate and/or outlet temperature deviates from acceptable ranges, e.g., too low a flow rate, too high an outlet temperature, detects an imminent failure of the primary chiller device and responds accordingly, e.g., requesting shutdown of the primary chiller device or the downstream IT devices. |
