Abstract

Star-delta convertible connector (200) and method of operating the same for selectively establishing a star configuration or a delta configuration in a three-phase power distribution system are disclosed. The connector includes a socket assembly (202) having multiple receptacles electrically coupled to corresponding terminals and arranged to receive phase conductors and, selectively, neutral conductors, as well as an interchange plug receptacle. The interchange plug (204) includes prongs carrying at least one conductive busbar (222) configured to establish different electrical interconnections based on plug orientation. In a first orientation, the busbar electrically interconnects phase conductors with neutral conductors to establish a star configuration, and in a second orientation, the busbar electrically interconnects phase conductors with one another to establish a delta configuration. Switching between configurations is accomplished by removing the interchange plug, reorienting the interchange plug by approximately 180 degrees, and reinserting the interchange plug, without rewiring, disassembly, or removal of the socket assembly.
