The present disclosure provides an intralocular-lens (IOL) or ophthalmic device including an optic and at least one haptic, at least a portion of which is formed from a photoresponsive shape memory polymer network, such as a polydomain azo liquid crystalline polymer network (PD-LCN). The present disclosure further provides systems and methods for adjusting the position of such an IOL or other ophthalmic device using polarized laser radiation.

Disclosed are apparatus, systems, and methods for objectively assessing accommodation in an eye. For example, a method for objectively assessing accommodation can comprise displaying, at a far display, a stimulus target for a first duration and displaying, at a near display, the stimulus target for a second duration. The stimulus target displayed at the near display can be projected onto a first beam splitter positioned at an oblique angle with respect to the near display. The stimulus target displayed on the far display can be axially aligned with the stimulus target projected onto the first beam splitter. The method can also comprise obtaining, at a controller, measurements concerning refractive states of the eye during the first duration and the second duration from a refractor device in communication with the controller and determining, using the controller, an accommodative response of the eye based in part on the respective refractive states.

A system for selecting a preferred intraocular lens for implantation into an eye includes a controller having a processor and a tangible, non-transitory memory. The controller is configured to obtain diagnostic data of the eye, and obtain historical data composed of historical sets of patient data. The controller is configured to analyze individual risk factors based on the diagnostic data and obtain a weighted combination of the individual risk factors. A respective satisfaction metric for the plurality of intraocular lenses is generated based on the historical data. A preferred intraocular lens may be selected based in part on the respective satisfaction metric and the weighted combination. A visual simulation for each of the plurality of intraocular lenses may be performed, based in part on the diagnostic data. The visual simulation may incorporate an impact of the tear film data.

A method and system provide an ophthalmic device. The ophthalmic device includes an ophthalmic lens having anterior surface, a posterior surface and at least one diffractive structure including a plurality of zones. The at least one diffractive structure is for at least one of the anterior surface and the posterior surface. Each zone includes at least one echelette having a least one step height. The step height(s) are individually optimized for each zone. To compensate chromatic aberration of eye from distance to a range of vision, a greater than 2π phase step height may be employed and the step height(s) folded by a phase, which is an integer multiple of two multiplied by π. Hence chromatic aberration of eye may be compensated to improve vision from distance to near.

A method and system provide an ophthalmic lens including a lens body having a chamber therein, a reservoir module coupled with the lens body and an optical fluid. At least part of the lens body is flexible. The reservoir module includes a reservoir and a heat sensitive portion bordering the reservoir. The reservoir has a reservoir volume and is fluidically connected with the chamber. The heat sensitive portion has a shape responsive to a temperature of at least forty five degrees Celsius such that the reservoir volume changes in response to at least part of the heat sensitive portion reaching the temperature. The optical fluid resides in the chamber and the reservoir. A change in the reservoir volume flows a portion of the optical fluid between the reservoir and the chamber such that the flexible portion of the lens body undergoes a shape change corresponding to a base power change.

In certain embodiments, an ophthalmic system for imaging a target includes an optical coherence tomography (OCT) device that: directs an imaging beam towards a volume comprising the target, wherein a z-axis of the volume defines a plurality of xy-planes within the volume; receives the imaging beam reflected from the volume; generates three-dimensional (3D) image data from the imaging beam reflected from the eye; and generates two-dimensional (2D) enface images from the 3D image data. each of the plurality of 2D enface images is disposed along one of the plurality of xy-planes; The plurality of 2D enface images comprising at least one first enface image depicting target in the volume and at least one second enface image depicting a shadow cast by the target. An xy scanner is configured to receive the imaging beam from the OCT device and direct the imaging beam along the imaging beam path toward the target. A computer configured to compare to the target of the first enface image and the shadow of the second enface image to confirm the presence of the target.

A method and device for reducing intraocular pressure in a patient. The method may comprise deploying administering a viscoelastic material into Schlemm's canal to open aqueous humor outflow pathways. The device is adapted to perform the method. The viscoelastic material may be configured to lower the intraocular pressure within the eye.

The present invention is directed to a lipid-based ophthalmic emulsion. The emulsion has an increased amount of a mucoadhesive galactomannan polymer that promotes a long-lasting protection against desiccation and moisture retention.

The devices and methods of the present invention provide a means to depress the sclera in such a fashion as to provide single point, multiple point, semicircular or 360 circumferential scleral tissue depression without the need for manual manipulation of the scleral depressor. The device comprises a shaped depressor for insertion between the sclera and the orbit of the eye and a holding means for positioning the depressor, hi some embodiments the device can be integrated with a speculum. Use of the device eliminates the need to have a second person manipulate the depressor during the procedure and directly enables bimanual surgery.

In certain embodiments, an ophthalmic system for assessing a tear film of an eye comprises measuring devices and a computer. The measuring devices detect light reflected from the eye, where an ocular surface of the eye comprises the tear film, and generate data from the reflected light that describes the eye. The computer aligns the data corresponding to the same location for a plurality of locations, assesses the data at the locations to detect one or more abnormalities of the tear film, and determines a tear film description from the assessment of the data at the locations.
