A method (200) of operating a wireless telecommunications system (100) comprising an ElectroMagnetic Transmitter (105), EMT, and a Rydberg-Atom Receiver (110), RAR, for detecting an EM field (170) from the EMT, and the method comprising the steps of: providing (210), to the EMT and to the RAR, a communication configuration for enabling transmission, by the EMT, of a data signal encoded within a wireless multi-band transmission, and for enabling reception, by the RAR, of said wireless multi-band transmission; configuring (220) the EMT and the RAR according to the provided communication configuration; transmitting (230), by the EMT and whilst the EMT is configured according to the communication configuration, the wireless multi-band transmission having encoded therewithin the data signal; receiving (240), by the RAR and whilst the RAR is configured according to the communication configuration, the wireless multi-band transmission; and processing the wireless multi-band transmission so as to derive the data signal.

There is herein described, a method of Distributed Acoustic Sensing, the method comprising transmitting an optical sensing signal into an optical fibre located in a channel, measuring an intensity of a return signal, the return signal comprising a component of the optical sensing signal that has been backscattered from a target location in the optical fibre, performing a comparison of the measured intensity of the return signal to a threshold, if the comparison indicates that the intensity of the return signal is greater than the threshold, determining that a blockage may be present in the channel in the vicinity of the target location.

A method of managing the transmission of unicast packets in a wireless local area network to client devices that are sensitive to collisions from transmissions to other client devices. These client devices that are sensitive to collisions, termed collision sensitive nodes, are typically associated with a problem access point, which are access points that share a coverage area with another access point but are not themselves in direct communication range of each other. A collision sensitive node is paired with each client device that is associated with the other access point to generate a respective collision node pair. Unicast packets directed to any client device in a collision node pair are scheduled to introduce a delay to their delivery so as to reduce the likelihood causing a collision at the collision sensitive node.

A method (200) of operating a telecommunications system (100), said system comprising a/an: client device (110); set of servers (130) for providing a service to the client device; and authentication server (120) for generating an authentication ticket for provision of the service by the set of servers to the client device; the method comprising the steps of: generating at the authentication server: a set of encrypted levels of service (220), said set comprising at least two different levels of service, each of said levels: comprising a performance requirement; and being encrypted with a corresponding encryption key from a set of encryption keys; and an authentication ticket, for the client device and service, said ticket comprising the set of encrypted levels of service; communicating, to the set of servers; the authentication ticket (230); and performing a process comprising the steps of: communicating, to the set of servers, an encryption key, from the set of encryption keys, not yet having been communicated to the set of servers (240); processing, by the set of servers, the authentication ticket using said communicated encryption key, thereby to retrieve the performance requirement within the corresponding level of service (250); determining, by the set of servers, whether to provide the service in accordance, at least, with the retrieved performance requirement (250); and subsequent to said determining, identifying that provision of the service according to, at least, the retrieved performance requirement is (260): rejected by the set of servers (260-1), in response to which subsequently reiterating the process (240); or accepted by at least one of the servers (260-2), in response to which subsequently selecting one of said servers to provide the service according to, at least, the retrieved performance requirement (280).

A computer-implemented method of protecting a network is provided. The method receives security alert data from one or more intrusion detection systems. The security alert data comprises a plurality of security alerts relating to the network. The method generates a plurality of similarity matrices from the security alert data. Each similarity matrix is generated using a different respective similarity function and indicates a respective similarity between each of the security alerts according to that similarity function. The method generates one or more attack graphs from the plurality of similarity matrices. Each attack graph represents a respective set of security alerts, wherein a similarity between each of the security alerts in the set, according to at least one of the similarity matrices, is above a predefined threshold. The method causes one or more predetermined actions to be taken with respect to the network to mitigate a respective attack represented by each of the attack graphs.
