A tire wear state estimation system and method is disclosed. The system comprises at least one tire supporting a vehicle; a CAN bus system disposed on the vehicle; and at least one sensor disposed on the vehicle and in electronic communication with the CAN bus system. The at least one sensor is operative to measure selected parameters associated with the vehicle and to communicate data for the selected parameters through the CAN bus system, including a first set of data, a second set of data and a third set of data. The system further comprises a rolling radius estimator operative to receive the first set of data and estimate a rolling radius for the at least one tire; an acceleration slip estimator operative to receive the second set of data and the estimated rolling radius to estimate the slip of the at least one tire during acceleration of the vehicle; a braking slip estimator operative to receive the third set of data and the estimated rolling radius to estimate the slip of the at least one tire during braking of the vehicle; and a tire slip analyzer to correlate the estimation of the slip of the at least one tire during acceleration of the vehicle and the slip of the at least one tire during braking of the vehicle and generate an estimated wear state of the at least one tire.

A tire wear estimation system and method is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: providing at least one sensor affixed to the tire; generating a first predictor from the at least one sensor; providing at least one of a lookup table and a database storing data; generating a second predictor from the at least one of a lookup table and a database, wherein one of the predictors includes at least one vehicle effect; inputting the predictors into a model; generating an estimated wear rate for the tire with the model; and communicating the estimated wear rate to a vehicle operating system. The system comprises at least one tire supporting a vehicle; at least one sensor affixed to the tire to generate a first predictor; at least one of a lookup table and a database storing data for a second predictor, wherein at least one of the first and second predictors includes at least one vehicle effect; and a model configured for receiving the predictors and generating an estimated wear rate for the at least one tire.

A rubber composition is disclosed for use in a tire tread, the rubber composition comprising, based on parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of elastomer (phr), (A) one or more conjugated diene-based elastomers comprising: (1) from 80 to 100 phr of a natural cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber, and (2) from zero to 20 phr of at least one additional diene-based synthetic elastomer comprising cis 1,4-polybutadiene rubber and styrene/butadiene rubber; (B) from 20 to 120 phr of a rubber reinforcing filler comprising a combination of silica and from 5 to 100 phr of a rubber reinforcing carbon black; and (C) from 1 to 50 phr of a fatty acid amide, where said fatty acid amide is of the general formula (I): <img class="EMIRef" id="502021320-ia01" /> where R<1>is or comprises an alkyl hydrocarbon radical containing from 12 to 36 carbon atoms, an alkenyl hydrocarbon radical containing from 12 to 36 carbon atoms or an alkadiene hydrocarbon radical containing from 12 to 36 carbon atoms.

The system comprises: a vehicle (10) supported by at least one vehicle tire (12) mounted to a hub, the vehicle tire having a tire cavity (20) and a ground-engaging tread (16), and the tire (12) having a plurality of tire-specific measureable parameters; a tire-affixed tire-identification device (24) for providing a tire-specific identification; a plurality of tire-affixed sensors mounted to the tire for operably measuring the tire-specific parameters and generating tire-specific parameter information; and a model-based optimal tire slip ratio estimator operable to generate a model-derived optimal tire slip ratio estimation from an assessment of the tire-specific parameter information relative to the tire-specific identification.

An air maintenance tire assembly is disclosed comprising a tire having a tire cavity bounded by first and second sidewalls extending to a tire tread region and (i) a tire-mounted air pumping means for pumping pressurized air into the tire cavity to maintain air pressure within the tire cavity at a defined pressure level, or (ii) a tire-based pressurized air pumping assembly for pumping tire-generated pressurized air into the tire cavity to maintain air pressure within the tire cavity at a preferred pressure level. The tire has an elongate valve stem projecting outward from the tire cavity, the valve stem having an internal valve stem air passageway or an internal axial valve stem air passageway in communication with the tire cavity operative to direct pressurized air from the valve stem air passageway into the cavity. A pressure control assembly is positioned at a control location in proximal relationship to the valve stem and operative to selectively control a flow of pressurized air from the tire-mounted air pumping means or from the tire-based pressurized air pumping assembly through the valve stem air passageway and into the tire cavity responsive to a detected air pressure level within the tire cavity.
