Ein Materialpuffer (40), der zwischen einer Versorgungsstation (10) und einer Dosierpumpe (20) in einem System (1) zur Förderung und Dosierung eines viskosen Materials einsetzbar ist, umfasst: einen Materialzylinder (41); einen Materialkolben (42), der mit dem Materialzylinder (41) eine das Material aufnehmende Materialkammer (43) begrenzt, in der ein Materialdruck herrscht; eine Kolbenstange (48), die mit dem Materialkolben (42) verbunden ist und als Hohlstange ausgebildet ist, sodass das Material durch die Kolbenstange (48) in die Materialkammer (43) einleitbar ist; einen Druckzylinder (49), durch den die Kolbenstange (48) führt; und einen Druckkolben (54), der an der Kolbenstange (48) befestigt ist; wobei der Druckkolben (54) und der Druckzylinder (49) eine Belastungskammer (55) und eine Entlastungskammer (57) begrenzen, die jeweils durch ein Druckmedium beaufschlagbar sind, und wobei das Volumen der Materialkammer (43) zunimmt, wenn das Volumen der Belastungskammer (55) abnimmt. An oder in dem Druckzylinder (49) ist ein elastisches Federelement (61) vorgesehen, das auf den Druckkolben (54) eine Federkraft ausübt, wenn die Belastungskammer (55) drucklos gestellt ist; wobei die Federkraft einer Kraft, die auf den Druckkolben (48) durch den Materialdruck entsteht, entgegenwirkt.
