The invention refers to an aerosol generating apparatus, comprising: a device body (50) having a heating element (54) for heating a consumable to generate an aerosol therefrom, and a cap device (51). One of the device body (50) and the cap device (51) includes a first arm (104) laterally spaced from and extending parallel to an axis of the aerosol generating apparatus (1) passing through the heating element (54), and the other of the device body (50) and the cap device (51) includes a first cavity (100). The first cavity (100) slidably receives the first arm (104) for moving the cap device (51) relative to the heating element (54) along the axial direction between a closed position in which the heating element (54) is covered by the cap device (51) and an open position in which the heating element (54) is uncovered for cleaning. At least one of the first arm (104) and the first cavity (100) includes a first friction reduction means (120) for reducing friction between the first cavity (100) and the first arm (104).

A method of manufacturing an elongate aerosol generating apparatus (210) from plural components comprising: an elongate sub-assembly (200) having a sub-assembly longitudinal axis, the elongate sub-assembly comprising an interaction element (204); and, an elongate external housing (202) having a housing longitudinal axis, the external housing configured to house the sub-assembly, the external housing including a receiving aperture (206), wherein the method comprises the steps of: flexing or tilting a carrying portion of the sub-assembly away from the sub-assembly longitudinal axis such that the interaction element moves in a direction transverse to the sub-assembly longitudinal axis; inserting the flexed or tilted sub-assembly into the external housing along the housing longitudinal axis, such that the interaction element aligns with the receiving aperture; and, unflexing or untilting the carrying portion of the sub-assembly such that the interaction element moves towards the receiving aperture.

A method performed by an aerosol generating apparatus. The aerosol generating apparatus comprises: a time counter; and a time counter memory. The method includes: when the aerosol generating apparatus is in a sleep state, periodically incrementing the time counter; receiving a wake-up command for transitioning the aerosol generating apparatus from the sleep state to an operational state, and in response to receiving the wake-up command, transitioning the aerosol generating apparatus from the sleep state to the operational state. Transitioning the aerosol generating apparatus to the operational state includes: reading a current time from the time counter and adding the current time to an elapsed time stored in the time counter memory; and resetting the time counter whilst retaining the elapsed time in the time counter memory.

The present disclosure relates to an aerosol generating apparatus (100) wherein a consumable (104) is engaged with a body (102) by pushing the consumable toward the body in a first direction, and wherein the consumable is disengaged from the body by subsequently pushing the consumable in the same first direction. Consequently, the consumable is fixed to the body by a mechanism (300) that enables a relative movement of the consumable and body in a first, push direction, to engage the mechanism, and a second relative movement of the consumable and body in the first, push direction to disengage the mechanism. Thus, in the exemplary embodiments, the consumable is engaged to the body by a push-push mechanism.
