A terminal is configured to switch from an unlocked mode in which a first set of user interactions can be made through a user interface to effect certain functions, to a partial lock mode in which a different set of user interactions are made available to the user in relation to the same, or substantially similar, displayed content. Switching does not cause the currently-displayed content to entirely disappear, as in a conventional transition to a lock mode, but rather the same or substantially the same content continues to be displayed. Switching between the modes can take place in response to manual selection, for example using a hardware or software switch, or can take place automatically in response to one or more sensors of the apparatus detecting a predetermined operating condition, e.g. the user being in motion. |

A system for selectively expediting connection establishment between apparatuses. In at least one example implementation, an apparatus may comprise at least a control entity and a communication entity. The control entity may transmit a command to the communication entity, the command instructing the communication entity to set certain operational parameters. The communication entity may then send a response to the command, and the control entity may determine if the certain operational parameters have been set in the communication entity based on the response. If the certain operational parameters have been set, the control entity may initiate a first device discovery mode in the apparatus. Alternatively, a second device discovery mode may be initiated by the control entity if it is determined that the certain operational parameters have not been set in the communication entity. |

A system for facilitating communal apparatus interaction. In accordance with at least one embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus configured to communicate on a wireless channel may receive first information pertaining to wireless traffic expected from other networks also utilizing the wireless channel. The apparatus may then determine whether the received information satisfies a first criterion, and if it is determined that the first information satisfies the first criterion, the apparatus may shorten an awake window duration for communicating on the wireless channel. Alternatively, if it is determined that the information does not satisfy the first criterion, the apparatus may proceed to further determine whether second information pertaining to wireless traffic on the wireless channel that is expected from a network satisfies a second criterion. If it is determined that the second information satisfies the second criterion, the apparatus may proceed to lengthen the awake window duration. |
