Zusammenfassung
An annulus filler (100) is provided for mounting to a rotor disc (34) of a gas turbine engine and bridging the gap between two adjacent blades (25) attached to the rotor disc. The annulus filler is substantially entirely formed from a polymer matrix composite material. It has an outer lid (30) which defines an airflow surface for air being drawn through the engine in an axial airflow direction, and a support structure which is connectable to the rotor disc to support the lid on the rotor disc. The support structure has two support walls (32) extending from opposing lateral sides of the lid to an attachment strap (36) for receiving a hook (38) on the rotor disc, the attachment strap bridging the support walls. In use, under centrifugal loads, the opposing support walls resiliently deform to allow outward radial movement of the lid. Each support wall is thickened in a region (T) neighbouring the attachment strap. |

A method is provided of determining the internal cross-sectional area of a pipe along its length. The method includes the steps of: (a) filling the pipe with a first fluid; (b) feeding a second fluid into the pipe at a known flow rate, a meniscus being formed between the first and the second fluid, and the meniscus moving along the pipe as the second fluid displaces the first fluid in the pipe; (c) ultrasonically detecting the position of the meniscus as it moves along the pipe; and (d) determining from the second fluid flow rate and the meniscus position, the internal cross-sectional area of the pipe along its length. |

Zusammenfassung
A combustion staging system (30) is provided for fuel injectors of a multi-stage combustor of a gas turbine engine. The system has a splitting unit (35) which receives a metered fuel flow and controllably splits the metered fuel flow into out-going pilot and mains fuel flows to perform pilot-only and pilot-and-mains staging control of the combustor. The system further has pilot (31, 32) and mains fuel (33) manifolds which respectively receive the pilot and mains fuel flows. The system further has a plurality of parallel mains flow scheduling valves (40) which distribute the mains fuel flow from the mains manifold to mains discharge orifices of respective injectors of the combustor. The mains flow scheduling valves also pass the pilot fuel flow to pilot discharge orifices of the respective injectors. Each mains flow scheduling valve has a chamber containing a movable piston, the chamber to a pilot side of the piston being in fluid communication with the pilot fuel manifold and the chamber to a mains side of the piston being in fluid communication with the mains fuel manifold. The piston is biased towards a closed pilot-only position which prevents flow out of the mains side of the chamber to the mains discharge orifice of the respective injector. The piston is movable under an increase in pressure in the mains fuel manifold to an open pilot-and-mains position which allows flow out of the mains side of the chamber to the mains discharge orifice of the respective injector. |

Aspects of the present invention provide methods and apparatus for forming composite components having a fillet joint. A first aspect of the invention provides a mould 102 for a composite component 108 having a fillet joint, the mould 102 comprising a mould body 105 having a cavity 116 within which the component 108 is formed, and an insert 150 mating with the mould body 105 and comprising a forming surface 160 against which, in use, the fillet of the component fillet joint is formed. The insert may be thermally insulating and highly rigid. Another aspect of the present invention provides a method of forming a composite component 108 having a fillet joint using a mould, the method comprising forcing a surface 112 of the fillet region 110 of the component to adopt a non constant radius of curvature while the component is inside the mould during the cure process. A further aspect of the present invention provides a method of forming a composite component 108 having a fillet joint that is defined between first and second legs 104, 106, the method comprising placing the legs of the component in bending during cure of the component. |
