A method is provided for operating a cooker having at least one overflow sensing element associated with a heating element of the cooker, the at least one overflow sensing element having a measurable characteristic. The method comprises: (i) making measurements of the measurable characteristic for the at least one overflow sensing element; (ii) determining, using measurements made at (i) during a calibration period, a reference value for the characteristic for the at least one overflow sensing element; (iii) comparing a subsequent measurement made at (i) with the respective reference value for the characteristic thereby to identify an overflow event if a determined difference between the subsequent measurement and the respective reference value of the characteristic exceeds a predetermined threshold; and (iv) if an overflow event is identified at (iii), generating a warning for a user. The invention extends to a cooker, a cooker controller and a computer program.

The present invention provides a video display apparatus (100) at least comprising a display screen (10), at least one loudspeaker for emitting a sound in association with at least one still or moving image displayed on the display screen (10), at least two spatially separated microphones (1, 2, 3), and an audio signal processing unit (20) configured to separate the sound emitted by the loudspeaker from a sound received by the microphones. The present invention also provides a method of operating a video display apparatus, wherein the method at least comprises displaying on a display screen of the apparatus at least one still or moving image, emitting a sound from a loudspeaker of the apparatus in association with displaying the at least one still or moving image, receiving a sound by at least two spatially separated microphones of the apparatus, and separating the sound emitted from the loudspeaker from the sound received by the microphones. Such a method allows for three-dimensional localization and separation of sound sources to receive and execute voice commands for control of a video display apparatus, such as a television, without the need for a remote control.

Whilst the hair iron (100) is being applied to the hair, the controller determines a temperature change of one or more plates (102) of the hair iron (100) over a time period starting from an initial application of the hair iron (100) to the hair being ironed. If the temperature change of the one or more plates (102) is larger than a threshold, the controller reduces the power supplied to the one or more plates (102).

The present invention refers to an oven (1). The oven (19 according to the present invention at least comprises a cooking chamber (2) for heating food, a pre-heating unit (4) for providing heated air for heating the cooking chamber (2), wherein the air can be heated inside a pre-heating chamber (6) of the pre-heating unit (4), wherein an air supply (8) is provided for conducting ambient air under pressure into the pre-heating chamber (6) of the pre-heating unit (4) for providing pressurized air inside the pre-heating chamber (6), wherein the cooking chamber (2) and the pre-heating chamber (6) are fluidly connected, wherein air pre-heated in the pre-heating chamber (6) is conductable by means of the fluid connection (10) from the pre-heating chamber (6) to the cooking chamber (2).

A washing control technique for a dish washer (10) is presented. The dishwasher (10) includes a motor (120) driving a circulation pump (46) for circulating wash water through a circulation hose (28a, 28b) from a dishwasher compartment (42) towards spray arms (26a, 26b, 26c), a control unit (110), and a flow meter (105) for detecting a flow rate of the wash water in the circulation hose (28a) while washing is performed using the wash water. A washing operation based on the detected flow rate of the wash water is determined by the control unit (110). The flow rate indicates a viscosity of the wash water, which in turn indicates amount of contaminants in the wash water. Thus, from the flow rate the control unit (110) determines whether to recirculate the wash water for subsequent washing cycle or to drain the wash water off the dishwasher (10).
