Acoustic models accurately predict ear-canal acoustics in children using standard clinical immittance measures to improve the accuracy of hearing aid fitting when measurements cannot be made in the child's ear canal. Physical models of ear canal geometry have been associated to indirect acoustic estimates, which makes is possible to develop models that can predict physical and acoustic characteristics of the ear canal. Such a model predicts ear-canal geometry and acoustics to product earmolds without the need for ear impressions or repeated verification. The combination of predicting ear canal geometry and acoustics improves the quality of hearing aid fitting in children, positively impacts developmental outcomes, and reduces the burden for children and their families. This is especially seen in rural areas, developing countries, and other areas where the ratio of patients to care provides is reduced.

The invention relates to a method for operating a production system and the production system, for the manufacture of a plurality of frozen foodstuff items. The system includes apparatus for the supply of one or more materials, combining apparatus to combine at least some of said materials to form the said items, apparatus for use in the freezing and hardening of the items and one or more packaging apparatus located downstream of the freezing and hardening apparatus. Control means are provided such that should the combining apparatus or apparatus downstream of the combining apparatus stop operating, an indicator signal is generated and passed to the control means which processes and generates a control signal for at least the combining apparatus so as to at least reduce the throughput of items leaving said combining apparatus for a period of time and hence prevent build up of items and possible wastage of the same.

The invention relates to the provision of apparatus for use in forming a foodstuff and particularly a frozen confectionery and means for locating accurately a member such as a chocolate bar into position into an ice cream portion in a reliable and efficient manner whilst maintaining the quality of the chocolate member. The apparatus includes a source of the said members and movement means to move the members to a manipulator which then serves to move the chocolate member into a required position for insertion into said foodstuff item when the presence of the foodstuff item is detected.

Image capture means positioning apparatus is provided including image capture means capable of capturing one or more images in use; visual identification means arranged so as to be capable of being captured in the one or more images taken by the image capture means in use; and micro-processing means. The micro-processing means are arranged to undertake the following: a) process the one or more images captured by the image capture means and identify a current image position of the visual identification means in said images; b) compare the current image position of the visual identification means in the images to a previously known image position of the visual identification means; c) determine if there is a difference between the current image position of the visual identification means and the previously known image position of the visual identification means and, if a difference is detected, initiate a pre-determined action or actions in respect of the same.

Dimension measurement apparatus is provided including: image capture means for capturing one or more images of at least one item in use; and micro-processing means arranged in use to receive and process the one or more captured images, and calculate one or more dimensions of the at least one item in the one or more captured images.The image capture means are arranged to capture a plurality of the images of the at least one item in a pre-determined period of time in use. The micro-processing means are further arranged in use to: identify the presence of one or more objects, which may or may not include the at least one item, within each of the plurality of captured images in the pre-determined period of time to provide a measure of identified objects; identify one or more of the captured images from the plurality of captured images for which the measure of identified objects is the lowest during the pre-determined period of time; and use the identified one or more captured images for which the measure of identified objects is the lowest to calculate one or more dimensions of the at least one item in use.

The present invention provides a dimensional measurement apparatus. The apparatus includes at least one light source, camera means spaced apart from and directed towards said light source, a platform located intermediate said light source and camera means, arranged to receive an article thereon to be measured by said apparatus, in use; and computing means in communication with at least said light source and camera means. The light source, upon communication with the computing means, is arranged in use to illuminate in portions or regions behind the article being measured with respect to the camera means, which correspond with edges and/or an outer profile of that article, as detected by the camera means and communicated to the light source via the computing means.

A fusion machine (10) which can be top-loaded on very large polyolefin pipes and pipelines has jaws which consist of an upper half jaw (63/163) and lower left and right (65/165) complemental jaws which pivot on the half jaw. Left and right actuators (110) connected between the complemental jaws and the half jaw (61) operate in one direction to cause the complemental jaws to rotate to an opened condition in which the upper half jaw (61) can be lowered onto and lifted from the pipes to be fused and in the other direction to cause the complemental jaws to rotate to a closed condition in which the pipes to be fused are gripped so substantially around their circumferences as to resist their deformation from round during manipulation by the machine (10). The top-loading machine minimizes the need for heavy equipment to load and unload pipe to and from the fusion machine (10).

An apparatus for retrofitting a HID lighting system includes using existing components of previously installed HID lighting systems such as its ballasts while replacing some capacitors to adjust the power supplied to a retrofit LED luminaire. Unused ballast drivers are removed, and a self-contained ballast driver assembly is mounted into the electronic control enclosure of the previously installed lighting system. Some of the retrofit LED luminaires include an uplighting lens, an optic, or a diffuser for providing uplight. An aiming bracket and an aiming plate allow for the horizontal aiming angle of a light luminaire to be set.
