Disclosed is a switched-mode power supply, SMPS (1, 1A, 1B), comprising a reactive circuit (11); a first switch (12, S<sub>1</sub>), interposed between the reactive circuit (11) and a ground electric potential of the SMPS (1, 1A, 1B), and configured to short-circuit a voltage (V<sub>DS</sub>) across the first switch (12, S<sub>1</sub>) in accordance with a first drive voltage (V<sub>GS</sub>) applied to the first switch (12, S<sub>1</sub>); and a control circuit (14), multi-connected to a drive terminal of the first switch (12, S<sub>1</sub>), and configured to apply the first drive voltage (V<sub>GS</sub>) to the first switch (12, S<sub>1</sub>) in accordance with a conduction time to short-circuit the voltage (V<sub>DS</sub>) across the first switch (12, S<sub>1</sub>); measure a duration (31, t) of a Miller plateau (3) in an emerging waveform of the first drive voltage (V<sub>GS</sub>); and operate the SMPS (1, 1A, 1B) in dependence of the measured duration (31, t) of the Miller plateau (3). This enables determining the voltage (V<sub>DS</sub>) across the first switch (12, S<sub>1</sub>) without requiring any excess components. |

The control system (1) is configured to obtain a first reference current (I<sub>ref1</sub>) for the current (I<sub>LM</sub>) and generate, based on the first reference current (I<sub>ref</sub>), a second reference current (I<sub>ref2</sub>), wherein an amplitude of the second reference current (I<sub>ref2</sub>) periodically changes, with a frequency, around an amplitude of the first reference current (I<sub>ref1</sub>). Further, the control system (1) is configured to perform a feedback control of the current (I<sub>LM</sub>) with regard to the second reference current (I<sub>ref2</sub>). The invention further relates to an operating device (13) for lighting means (8), comprising such a control system (1); a luminaire (14) comprising such an operating device (13); and a method for controlling a current source. |

The DC-to-DC converter device comprises a converter circuit configured to generate the load current and to output the load current via an output interface to the electric load, and the surge protection circuit connected between a DC grid interface for obtaining the DC supply voltage and the converter circuit. |
