The invention provides a method of generating a 3D image from an input 2D image by generating at least one shifted 2D image for presentation to a user in combination with the input 2D image or another shifted image derived from the input 2D image, the method comprising: receiving an input 2D image; for a first row of pixels in the input 2D image, from some selected point along the row mapping all pixels a common number of pixel locations to the left or mapping all pixels a common number of pixel locations to the right thereby shifting the image and forming a shifted image; mapping pixels in locations in the input 2D image before the predetermined point, a variable number of pixel locations to the left or right to positions in the shifted image; and repeating for other rows in the input 2D image.

The present invention provides a multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) communication apparatus (2) and corresponding method of transmitting information, which are also usable for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). The MIMO communication apparatus (2) at least comprises a first array (10) of electrodes (8), a second array (12) of electrodes (8), a channel (4) containing an ionisable gaseous medium disposed between the first and second arrays of electrodes, a channel controller, a modulator and charger associated with the first array (10) of electrodes, and a charge- and/or voltage-measuring device and demodulator associated with the second array (12) of electrodes. The channel controller is for varying at least one property of the channel (4), such as the pressure and temperature of the gaseous medium, as well as for controlling the modulator to modulate a charge and/or voltage with an information-bearing signal, before the modulated charge and/or voltage is applied by the charger to the first array (10) of electrodes for transmission of the signal by one or more electrical discharges (6) through the ionisable gaseous medium to the second array (12). The charge- and/or voltage of the second array is measured by the charge and/or voltage-measuring device and demodulated by the demodulator to recover the signal. This communication apparatus and the corresponding method therefore present a novel physical channel of communication, which is immune to jamming and interference by radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation and which is also physically more secure than conventional techniques of MIMO communication.

The present invention provides a supercapacitor assembly (2), which at least comprises a substrate (4), a supercapacitor (6) formed on the substrate, and a planar electrically conducting contact (8) formed on the supercapacitor (6). The substrate (4) is able to have an electrical circuit formed thereon. The supercapacitor (6) comprises a layer of two-dimensional material and an electrolyte in contact therewith, and is permanently bonded to the substrate (4). This arrangement prevents the supercapacitor (6) from being removed from the substrate (4) without destroying the supercapacitor and/or damaging the substrate and any electrical circuit formed thereon. Thus the supercapacitor cannot be easily removed from a portable electronic device comprising such a supercapacitor assembly without significantly damaging or destroying both the value of the device and the ability of the device to function normally. In a second aspect, the invention also provides a portable electronic device (10) at least comprising an enclosure containing a main circuit board (12) comprising such a supercapacitor assembly (2). The invention further provides a method of operating such a portable electronic device which also comprises a removable and rechargeable battery and a position-locating module, such as a GPS receiver, and a radio-frequency telecommunications module, such as a cellular telephone transceiver, which may therefore be used to find and transmit the location of the device using electrical power supplied by the supercapacitor, even if the battery is removed from the device or is dead, with a very much reduced risk that the supercapacitor will be removed from the device as well.

A method operating a consumer electronics device, wherein a plurality of cables are connected to corresponding audio/video input/output ports of the consumer electronics device, is performed. The method comprises receiving (S1) an analogue video signal transmitted along a connected cable; detecting and measuring (S2) an AC component in a part of the received analogue video signal corresponding to a video blanking period during a horizontal scan line; comparing (S3) the measured AC component with a predetermined threshold level; if a level of the measured AC component is higher than the predetermined threshold level, extracting and comparing (S4) the measured AC component with other signals transmitted along the remaining connected cables by measuring similarity; and if there is similarity between the measured AC component and at least one of the other signals, providing (S5) an alert message to a user of the consumer electronics device for allowing the user to mitigate the inter-cable crosstalk.
