A tool bit assembly includes a tool bit (900) having a shaft (902) with a first working region (904) disposed at a first end (906) of the shaft and a first reduced diameter portion (912) proximate the working region (904) and disposed between a first shoulder (916) and a second shoulder (920). A floating sleeve (510) has a rear portion with a pair of opposed window openings (514), a front portion supporting a magnet (50), and a pair of balls (516), with each ball disposed in one of the window openings. The floating sleeve (510) is receivable over the tool bit (900) with the magnet (50) proximate the first working regions (904) and the balls (516) received in the first reduced diameter portion (912) to allow the floating sleeve to move between a first position in which the balls abut the first shoulder (916) and a second position in which the balls abut the second shoulder (920). |

A bit holder assembly (10) for a rotary tool, comprising a body (12) having a shank (16) at its rearward end and a coaxial socket (20) formed at a second end to allow a tool bit (40) to be inserted therein, said body (12) having an opening (22) formed in the body (12) in communication with said socket (20); a retraction collar (14) slidably disposed on said body (12); a coil spring (30) biasing the retraction collar (14) forwardly; a retainer (34) held in a bottom of said opening (22) formed in the body (12) by one of said retraction collar (14) and said coil spring (30), wherein said tool bit (40) is removed by sliding the retraction collar (14) rearwardly, to compress the coil spring (30) and allow the retainer (34) to retract back up the opening (22); and a ring magnet (50) is disposed at a forward end of the retraction collar (14) to magnetize a fastener (54) to retain the fastener to the tool bit (40). |
