A vision system and method may include an image sensor configured to capture an image having a first resolution of a scene in which multiple objects are captured in the image. The image may be at a first analysis level and each of the objects are associated with an object class. Computing device(s) may be in electrical communication with the image sensor, and be configured to generate additional image(s) having respective lower resolutions. Each of the additional image(s) being at at least one second analysis level. A map that associates the object class(es) with one or more different analysis levels may be used to indicate which of the object class(es) to identify at the corresponding analysis levels. A multiclass classifier may be executed for each of the corresponding analysis levels to identify objects within the respective images. A list derived from the identified objects may be formed and output.

A safety laser scanner has automatic zone set switching based on its displacement from a reference position. A safety module of the safety laser scanner determines the displacement based on a first signal received from an encoder where the first signal is indicative of movement of the safety laser scanner. The safety module receives a second input when the safety laser scanner is at a reference position and that indicates zero displacement. The safety module selects one of a plurality of zone sets based on the displacement, where each zone set defines a safety zone corresponding to displacement of the safety laser scanner from the reference position. The safety laser scanner generates an output when an object is detected in the safety zone of the selected zone set. The safety laser scanner is positionable on a platform of a machine that moves relative to a stationary portion of the machine.

The disclosure includes a safety laser scanner device having a features simulator embedded thereon. One or more processors having one or more embedded software applications may be operable to connect with an external controller during an operational mode, and to emulate behavior of the external controller during a test mode that is configured to test the SLS device and validate configuration settings without the use of an external controller. A related method includes operating a safety laser scanner to communicate input process images and output process images between a programmable logic controller (PLC) and the safety laser scanner during an operational mode, communicate input process images and output process images between an external computer running a graphical user interface (GUI) during a test mode, and operate embedded logic within the safety laser scanner operable to emulate behavior of the PLC during test mode without a connection to the PLC.

The invention provides a light redirecting optical module for a light curtain comprising a passive optical element, especially a mirror or a prism, for changing the direction of an incident light beam, a carrier unit to which the passive optical element is fixed in a rigid manner, a support unit, wherein the carrier unit has a curved surface at a side facing away from the passive optical element and the support unit has a complementary curved surface facing the curved surface of the carrier unit, wherein the curved surfaces together form a rotary j oint, engagement means for keeping the two curved surfaces engaged to each other so as to allow for a guided rotary movement of the two surfaces relative to each other. The invention further provides a passive component of a light curtain comprising one or more passive elements for redirecting a light beam received from an emitter of the light curtain such that the light beam leaving the passive component impinges on an associated receiver of the light curtain for detecting a light beam emitted by the emitter, wherein the passive component comprises one or more of such light redirecting optical modules and a method for aligning passive optical elements in such a passive component.
