In some embodiments, a transducer system 200 includes one or more acoustic dampening elements, interruption grooves, annular projections, or dampening washers to reduce acoustic noise coupling between various components of the transducer system 200 or between the transducer system and a flowcell 100 in which the transducer system 200 is mounted. |

A passive flow modulation device (36) according to an embodiment includes: a temperature sensitive element (54) disposed within a first area (30); a piston (60) coupled to the temperature sensitive element (54), the piston (60) extending through a wall to a second area (44), wherein the first area (30) is at a higher temperature than the second area (44); and a valve arrangement (42) disposed in the second area (44) and actuated by a distal end portion of the piston (60), the valve arrangement (42) tangentially injecting a supply of cooling air (32) through an angled orifice (34) from the second area (44) into the first area (30) in response an increase in temperature in the first area (44). A passive flow modulation device (38) according to another embodiment comprises: a temperature sensitive element (78); a piston (86) coupled to the temperature sensitive element (78), the piston (86) including a head section (90), wherein the temperature sensitive element (78) and the piston (86) are disposed in a first area (30); and an orifice (34), extending from a second area into the first area (30), for supplying a flow of cooling air (32) from the second area to the first area (30), wherein the first area (30) is at a higher temperature than the second area; wherein the temperature sensitive element (78) enlarges or contracts to selectively position the head (90) of the piston (86) over a portion of the aperture (34) to control the flow of cooling air (32) from the second area into the first area (30). A corresponding turbine cooling system comprising a passive flow modulation device is also provided. |

Laser (30) and electric arc welder (40) are arranged and disposed to direct energy toward at least two adjacent components (70) along a joint and first wire (44) is a consumable electrode fed into joint to establish molten pool generated by both laser (30) and arc welder (40) with first wire (44). Second wire (52) is fed to molten pool to form a common molten pool (60). Common molten pool (60) is operable to provide a full penetration weld (92) with less total heat input to join the at least two adjacent components (70) without cracking the components (70) at a high constant weld speed. |

A device (130) for directing gas impingement to an inner casing (121) of a gas turbine (110) may include a plate (140) configured for attachment to the outer surface of the inner casing. The plate has a first surface (146) opposing the inner casing when the plate is attached to an area of the inner casing and a second surface (148) opposite the first surface. The plate defines a plurality of holes (144) through the plate from the first surface to the second surface. The holes are arranged with a predetermined non-uniform distribution in the plate corresponding to a desired preferential impingement pattern for providing non-uniform heat transfer from the area during operation of the gas turbine so as to control temperature of the inner casing across the area. Various options and modifications are possible. Related gas turbine assemblies are also disclosed. |
