A method of determining rotor blade axial displacement (b<ij>). The rotor blade tip (34) comprises first and second measurement features (36, 38) arranged to make an acute angle therebetween. Measure time of arrival (t<ijk>) of the once per revolution feature (1), first and second edges (40, 42) of the first measurement feature (36), and first and second edges (44, 46) of the second measurement feature (38), for at least two revolutions of the rotor (2). Convert these to circumferential distances (d<ijk>) for each revolution. Calculate a feature angle (α<ijk>) between each measurement feature (36, 38) and the once per revolution feature (1) for each revolution. Calculate blade untwist angle (ϕ<ij>) from the change in feature angle (α<ijk>) between measured revolutions. Calculate the rotor blade axial displacement (b<ij>) from the blade untwist angle (ϕ<ij>) and the circumferential distance (d<ijk>) of the point from one of the measurement features (36, 38). |

An annulus filler for installation between blades, such as fan blades, of the rotor of a gas turbine engine comprises a channel 13 which accommodates a post 6 defined between blade slots 4 of the disc 2. A chocking surface 24 of the annulus filler 12 contacts regions of a contact surface 26 of the post 6 to chock the head 10 of the post 6 within the channel 30. The annulus filler 12 is thus supported along the axial length of the post 6, enabling it to withstand circumferential forces generated on rotation of the disc 2. |

Zusammenfassung
A variable guide vane for a gas turbine engine comprises a fixed portion arranged on an upstream side, a movable flap arranged on a downstream side and a transfer slot defined between a trailing surface of the fixed portion and a leading surface of the movable flap. The movable flap has opposite pressure and suction sides extending along a chord line between leading and trailing edges, and is rotatable about an axis extending along a span of the movable flap over a range of angular positions between open and closed. The trailing surface has a substantially U-shaped profile with a first branch extending partially around the pressure side of the movable flap, and an opposite second branch extending partially around the suction side of the movable flap. The transfer slot has an inlet port arranged on the pressure side of the movable flap and an exhaust port arranged on the suction side of the movable flap. In use, in the closed position the suction side contacts the second branch to close the exhaust port, and in the open position the second branch directs a first air flow passing through the transfer slot tangentially over the suction surface of the movable flap. |

The remaining serviceable life of a critical rotating component of a gas turbine engine can be predicted using a remote detection component. The remote detection component is inspected to determine whether a crack has formed at a dedicated crack-initiation feature. If a crack has formed, a known correlation between the remote detection component and the critical rotating component is used to estimate the remaining serviceable life of the critical rotating component. Because the detection component is remote from the critical component, there is no risk of failure of the critical component. |
