An aftertreatment mixing tube (62) includes a mixing tube body (66) having an exhaust inlet (70) located in a first tube end (72), an exhaust outlet (74) located in a second tube end (76), and an inner tube surface (80) circumferentially extending around a center axis (68) and forming an exhaust passage (82). The mixing tube body further includes a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) injection port (84) positioned proximate to the first tube end. The mixing tube defines a mixing tube inner diameter dimension, and a mixing tube axial length dimension, and a ratio of the mixing tube axial length dimension to the mixing tube inner diameter dimension ranges from 5.9 to 6.7. An exhaust system (16) and methodology of operating an aftertreatment system (32) are also disclosed. In the aftertreatment mixing tube (62) there can be downstream of the DEF injector (86) impingement surfaces for improved mixing. |
