Provided are methods for activating a secondary cell group (SCG), terminal devices, and network devices. In one aspect, a method comprises: a terminal device performs beam failure detection and/or wireless link monitoring on an SCG in a deactivated state, starting of the radio link monitoring (RLM) and/or the beam failure detection (BFD) being determined on the basis of prediction information of data traffic of the terminal device. Thus, the terminal may start to perform the RLM and/or the BFD at a suitable moment, such that the terminal device may perform the RLM and/or the BFD nonpersistently during an SCG inactive state, thereby reducing energy consumption of the terminal performing the RLM and/or the BFD. In another aspect, a method comprises: a terminal device receives a first activation command, the first activation command being used for activating an SCG before actual data traffic of the terminal device reaches an SCG activation threshold. Thus, the terminal may start to perform operations related to the SCG activation before an SCG activation condition is satisfied, thereby reducing the SCG activation time. |
