This document describes techniques and systems for a road-perception system to estimate a belief and plausibility of lanes in a road model. The road-perception system models lanes of a road using basis bands to represent lane sections. The basis bands comprise points representing a polyline with a width at each point. The use of basis bands results in lower-computational requirements and a more stable road model than grid-based representations of a driving environment. The road-perception system also determines a belief mass associated with the lane sections. The road-perception system then computes, using the belief masses, a belief parameter and a plausibility parameter associated with proposed lanes of the road model. In this way, the described techniques and systems can provide an accurate and reliable road model and quantify uncertainty therein. |

This document describes techniques for localizing a vehicle to map data, for example, to enable assisted driving and automated driving within a road. A road model builder is described that uses vehicle location data to determine its position relative to map data obtained from a provider, which can be different than the location data's source. Using the vehicle position, the road model builder maintains a current lane segment for the vehicle and its relative position within the current lane segment. Based on its relative position, the road model builder determines whether a transition to another lane segment is appropriate before setting the current lane segment to be the other lane segment. The current lane segment, when provided as an input to an assisted-driving or automated-driving system, can enable safer operation of the vehicle and use fewer computing resources than other systems. |

A method is provided for validating annotations of objects. Spatial datapoints are provided via a sensor, e.g. a Lidar system, and sample objects are annotated based on a portion of the datapoints by identifying the sample objects and by assigning a geometrical shape to a subset of the datapoints for each sample object. A value of a property is determined for each sample object based on the geometrical shape and/or the subset of the datapoints. A probability distribution for the property is estimated based on the values of the property for the sample objects. For all datapoints, objects are annotated, a value of the property is determined for each object, and a probability value is assigned to the determined value of the property for each object based on the estimated probability distribution. Based on the respective assigned probability value, objects are selected for a review regarding erroneous annotation. |
