The present disclosure provides secure communication in telecommunication systems by enabling efficient key management for Non-Access Stratum (NAS) security contexts and user plane (UP) flows. It provides a hierarchical key derivation framework where a further key such as a security anchor key, derived from a long-term key shared between the User Equipment (UE) and the Core Network (CN), is distributed to control plane (CP) and user plane (UP) entities. These entities may further derive encryption and integrity protection keys specific to their functions, ensuring robust and context-specific security. The UE, CP, and UP entities may maintain cryptographic state machines for synchronization and support dynamic management of keys for multiple simultaneous flows. The present disclosure may apply to modular and scalable network architectures, such as 5G and future 6G systems, enhancing security, flexibility, and interoperability across diverse network scenarios, including private, hybrid, and distributed networks. |
