Provided is a composite substrate for surface acoustic wave devices, the composite substrate including a piezoelectric single crystal thin film, a support substrate, and at least one intervening layer that is provided between the piezoelectric single crystal thin film and the support substrate, the intervening layer being in contact with the piezoelectric single crystal thin film, the total thickness of the intervening layer being equal to or less than twice the wavelength of the surface acoustic wave, and the attenuation of a longitudinal wave of the intervening layer as calculated by a Brillouin oscillation method at a frequency of 40 GHz to 60 GHz being 8 × 10<sup>-2</sup> (nm<sup>-1</sup> · THz<sup>-2</sup>) or less. According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a composite substrate for surface acoustic wave devices, which has a small loss in the pass band of a filter, few spurious components, and excellent high performance and high reliability. |

The present invention is an optical isolator for use in a wavelength band of 780 to 820 nm including a Faraday rotator made of a composite oxide containing an oxide represented by the following formula (A) as a main component and having a Verdet constant at a wavelength of 800 nm of 0.80 min/(Oe·cm) or more, and a hollow magnet arranged around an outer periphery of the Faraday rotator,in which a sample length L (cm) of the Faraday rotator is in a range represented by the following inequality (1), and a magnetic flux density B (Oe) applied to the Faraday rotator is in a range represented by the following inequality (2) (Tb<sub>x</sub>R<sub>1-x</sub>)<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> (A)in which "x" satisfies 0.8 ≤ x ≤ 1.0, and R includes at least one element selected from the group consisting of scandium, yttrium, and lanthanoid elements other than Tb (terbium) 0.8≤L≤1.1B≤0.4×104This provides a compact optical isolator for use in a wavelength band of 780 to 820 nm. |
